Chipotle Restaurant Chips
Chipotle is a Mexican themed fast-food chain at the forefront of the current burrito craze that is currently overtaking American fast food. Their hallmark is simple offerings and simple ingredients. The most popular side dish (and one of the ONLY side dishes) is the chips and guacamole.
The chips are the standard flour/corn chips that you find at many Mexican restaurants. But one of Chipotle's contributions to the fast food world is taking a simple dish and making it just a little bit better than the fast-food competition. They like to add a little something extra or do a slightly unique spin, while still keeping the dish mainstream (the cilantro-lime rice is a good example.)
The chips are a cut above in the sense that large-grain table salt is used, and the chips are never oily. There seems to be a hint of a lime flavor. The texture and size are always consistent.
The highlight of course is the guacomole -- it's simple, raw, and fantastic. Tastes homemade.
Long story short, the chips and guacamole at Chipotle are so good that I often see customers come in, skip the entree line and just order a side of chips and guacamole.
